wow we had so much fun making these. We talked about realism in art, life cycles of butterflies and symmetry! Then I showed them how to fold their paper in half and draw half of their butterfly first with pencil then with black glue. Next we folded them in half and BOOM! We have a symmetrical butterfly. The final step was to add color. I have them the choice of oil pastels or paint and they all look beautiful!

This year I decided to try a pilot jewelry making program with one of my 5th grade classes. I was so inspired by the art teacher at McEachern HS and her jewelry making program that I wanted my students to share in the experience. I invited Ms. Mege to our classroom to present to my students and show them the basics. We have now met 3 times and so far they are STILL super excited to keep working. Below you will see pictures of completed pieces. I broke out my soldering iron so they have more permanence. Enjoy!
This is the continuation on the Wild things project I have done with 3rd grade. Students created their own very unique wild thing using their imaginations and oil pastels. We then sent all of them to McEachern for the Art Teacher's NAHS students to recreate as three dimensional works. Then the high school student and my 3rd grade student become pen pals. I just had a mom tell me that her daughter made such a lasting connection with the High School student that they now are email buddies and share their artwork with each other! I cannot believe how this has touched some of my students' hearts. I love this. The show was last week and I would have to say that I am always amazed at the dedication and talent of art students from every level. What a great turn out we had and I cannot wait to do this project again! Here are some photos, enjoy! |
