OMG I am so excited for this project. I have never taught Kumihimo before and I am hooked. Kumihimo is a Japanese art form of braided cord. It literally translates as 'gathered thread'. Kumihimo was functional art, the Samurai used it to bind their armor together. We are learning Kumihimo and will use the cord to make a bracelet. Below you will find pictures of what is happening right now. Everything is prepped and ready to go! I hope your student enjoys it and that some of you get a nice present :)
We are having a blast with this project. Students pick an ocean animal that they love and draw it as large as they can. We talked about how to place the animal in an interesting place in the composition. Doing this will make their artwork more interesting. Next we traced all the lines with black glue and let it dry. The glue created a sort of raised line. Then we talked about analogous colors (any three colors next to each other on the color wheel). Students picked their analogous colors and used a blending technique I taught them to color their animal. Finally they will choose a totally different color or two to color their background. I hope you enjoy! This project is for the first fundraiser of the year for the Art Room! Check out the in works pictures below!
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful summer, I know I did! Well we are already 3 weeks in and have managed to complete 2 projects! We are on a roll! The following picture is the result of a collaborative mural every student in the school contributed to. Every student used the element of line to create patterns then colored their petal their class color. I put all the petals together to create a flower! The students loved this project and were very excited to see the end result. Keep being creative!
