3rd Grade has almost finished their Pumpkins and should be able to take them home for the break. We looked at the artwork of Yayoi Kusama, the princess of polka-dots, and learned about shape and texture. We also talked about complementary colors and created a drawing of a pumpkin inspired by Yayoi Kusama with a complementary color scheme and textured background. I'm really liking these!

4th Grade is working on Radial symmetry Origami paper sculptures! Wheh what a mouth full! We talked about radial symmetry and how to achieve it. Then we learned 3 different Origami folds; the hat fold, kite fold, and samuri fold. Then students got to folding! They are folding and folding and folding...then arranging! Check out the preview below! WOOOOWWW These Romero Britto inspired marker prints are turning out amazing! This is only the first step with the printmaking. When they dry we will trace all the white lines with a sharpie to make our designs, patterns, and drawing POP!!
This lesson I did with 4th grade was an AI project. We reviewed the classroom science standard about planets closest to the sun, the sun being a star, and how size and distance vary of planets. We then talked about perspective in art and how perspective is how we see things in relation to distance. We discussed how even though the sun is further away than Mercury and Venus we see it better because it is just that much bigger than those planets. We then drew the Earth is perspective to the sun with Mercury and Venus in between. We drew them on left over laminate and painted them with tempera cakes. Then we discussed Neutral tones (brown, tan, beige, black, white, and grey). We used black and white to create our grey. Finally we taped our drawing/painting of the planets to our neutral tone background and VOILA! Arts Integration is a great way to teach my art standards by reinforcing classroom standards of learning. The perfect match!
Can you believe it’s already that time of year?! In third grade we have finished our artwork for their third grade music performance in December. We talked about radial symmetry and created snowflakes. Enjoy the pictures!
check out what 5th grade is working on! We looked at the process of batik and learned how to use everyday items (tooothpaste and lotion!) to create our own batik. Then we mastered our tints and shades and painted in a monochromatic color scheme. We just rinsed then out and will be pinning them up for the backdrop for the 3rd grade performance in December! We will be seeing as a last step and turning them into pillows. Wheh!! This project covers it all! |
